Types of brain cancer

Primary brain cancer are caused by primary brain tumors that has its origin in the brain. These tumors can be cancerous or non cancerous. Primary brain cancer is accompanied by loss of vision, problem of hearing or stroke. If the tumor is cancerous it can be malignant. Non cancerous tumors can cause harm only if spreads in the arteries.
Causes of brain cancer

Genetic mutation and suppression of the malignant cells may cause brain cancer. Sometimes there are certain inherited diseases that may lead to brain cancer. Multiple endocrine, retinoblastoma, neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis and Von Hippel-Lindau are some of the common cause of brain cancer. People having lung cancer, breast cancer or cancer in kidney or colon have a possibility of brain cancer.

Vinyl chloride which is used in manufacturing of furniture, parts of car, pipes and housewares can cause brain cancer. The disease is quite common with the people who are engaged in manufacturing of these plastic products and are frequently exposed to vinyl chloride.

Symptoms of brain cancer

The most common of symptom of brain cancer is headache, nausea and vomiting. There may be jerking of muscles. You may face a problem with walking or suffer from loss of balance. Memory loss or problem in thinking is quite common at this time which may affect your way of talking or the ability to see or hear. There may be hardly any sensation in your hands and legs. Paralysis of different parts of body is quite common with the persons suffering from brain cancer.

Diagnosis of brain cancer

Usually the doctors try to know the medical history of the patients and see if there are any symptoms of brain tumor . If the doctor suspects brain cancer then the patient may have to undergo various tests for confirmation which includes biopsy, imaging tests and other neurological examination.Computed axial tomography ( CT scan) and Positron emission tomography (PET scan) are also done for diagnosis of brain cancer.

Treatment of brain cancer

Treatment of brain cancer varies according to the age of the patient, the stage of cancer and where the tumor has developed. Usually there are three types of treatment for brain cancer, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. If the person's general health is good and the tumor is in primary stage then surgery can be done to remove the tumor.

If it is not possible to remove the primary tumor through surgery, then radiation therapy is used. Infact most malignant tumors are treated with radiation therapy. Chemotherapy is also widely used for treatment of tumors that are malignant in nature.
